take me (and the frog) out to the ball game....

Take me out to the park. Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks, I don't care if I ever come back.... So, yesterday was the first stitch and pitch in this area. The Portland Beavers took on the Tacoma Raniers. Perfect day for a ballgame. High 70's and cloudy. The rain held off until the 8th inning and we were under cover anyway. Stitch and Pitch is for knitters and crocheters and the like to do their thing while watching a ball game. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and when your hubby, your daughter, your parents, your son and his girlfriend, and your grandson are going...all the better! There wasn't a great showing of knitters but many of them had the support of their families so it was great ball game atmosphere. Portland lost by the way, but not before they got a grand slam! The root, root, root, for the home team paid off! So, you're probably asking what is up with the frog in the title? You probably think, since I talk about knitting, I frogged something. Well, I did, sort of, but that's not the reason for the title. Our grandson went with us, a very cute, very busy 6 year old, for his first ever baseball game. Unbeknownst to us, he brought a friend, in his pocket. Yep, a little frog, a live frog, in a plastic egg, that spent the entire train ride and game in a plastic egg, in J's pocket, and actually lived to tell about it. J got home and his older sister asked if he wanted help getting the frog out of his pocket! His Daddy called today to tell us we cheated the ball field out of a ticket. Wonder how much a ticket costs for a frog?

Here we are, youngest daughter and I in the back, son, grandson, and hubby in front. My parents are absent from this picture because they took the pictures. You can see other knitters in the background.

They were taking donations of hats for chemo patients. I had one done before we went and hoped to finish this second one but I was paying too much attention to the game and not enough on the knitting so while the Rainers went plink with the bat I went tink with the needles. At one point in the game they had the knitters stand up with their work and showed us on the big screen. I let my daughter stand in for me. She was too busy with the game and never even got her crocheting out!

And here is Froggy's friend. He enjoyed the first two innings...maybe? But he is a boy after all and it was more fun to run up and down the stairs, sit on grandpa's lap, go buy a hot dog, ask for cotton candy (which he didn't get under threat from his Dad), and enjoy smidgets of the game in between the other activities. It was his first ride on MAX as well and he was ready after the third inning to ride the train again. Hmmm, cost of a MAX ticket for a kiddo: $1.40, cost of a drink or snack for the train: under $5, keeping a kiddo entertained for hours while you knit: priceless

  1. Looks like fun. When it's Stitch n Pitch here it's triple digit heat, so I've never been!
